Mars and Titania

  • Goth Victorian Cat Portrait Art by TaraFly
  • Initial painting of Mars and Titania
  • Painting the background

“Mars and Titania” was inspired by the Victorian era obsession with “memento mori”, the remembrance of death, by having their recently departed loved ones photographed as if still living.
A raven skeleton is perched on her shoulder, and one wonders whether they were friends or enemies.
Did she eat him? :P

“Mars and Titania” is an acrylic monochromatic painting on stretched canvas, measuring 11″x14″. It was titled after the two colors I used: Mars Black and Titanium White.

“Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil! ~ prophet still, if bird or devil! ~
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted ~
On this home by Horror haunted ~ tell me truly, I implore”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.” ~ Edgar Allen Poe

Archival prints, greeting cards, magnets, bookmarks, and other gifts featuring Mars and Titania can be purchased in my shop, and from me personally at art shows.
