“Dragon Kimono Cat” was a privately commissioned portrait, which was inspired by an earlier painting I had done, in 2009, called “Red Kimono Cat”. She was only the second 16″x20″ painting I’d ever completed (the first was King Henry VIII), and it took nearly two months to finish.
“And then I became aware of all the magnificent silk wrapped around my body, and had the feeling I might drown in beauty. At that moment, beauty itself struck me as a kind of painful melancholy.” ― Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha
Archival prints of Dragon Kimono Cat can be purchased here in my shop, and from me personally at shows.
