I am happy to announce a new partnership with Give Purrs A Chance adoption center in Berkeley Springs, WV!
My artwork will be available for purr-chase in their Catique Boutique, a unique gift-shop that offers hundreds of vintage and handmade cat themed items from local artists – including original art, prints, pottery, soaps, jewelry, towels, clothing, and toys for humans and cats!
I have dropped off an initial batch of framed and matted prints, and will be stocking the boutique with additional items soon; 20% of your Purrs art purchases will support this fantastic cat adoption center!
Give Purrs A Chance is located in a 5-bedroom Victorian house in downtown Berkeley Springs, WV – a two hour drive west of Baltimore and Washington D.C. An animal-friendly alternative to traditional adoption shelters, there are NO cages at Purrs! Cats have free rein of the entire 2,800 sqft house, which has been given a make-over with feline comfort in mind.
Upholstered chairs piled with blankets, fleece cat beds, and wide windowsills invite cats to snooze in the sun. Adventurous kitties enjoy scaling the carpeted cat tree and wall shelves, and exploring the most impressive Cat Castle I’ve ever seen!
The castle was custom built by the folks at Purrs’, using wooden planks and carpet scraps, and features several tower rooms where shy cats can find solitude.
Located up a gorgeous flight of Victorian stairs is “the Kitten Room”, where young rescues are nurtured by volunteers until they are old enough to join the clowder of 30+ cats that call Purrs their temporary home.
For most of these beauties, their vacation-stay at Purrs will be markedly short, because the adoption center has had terrific success finding furr-ever homes for over 130 cats since its grand opening in May 2017!
It’s not surprising, considering potential fur-parents can play with and observe these cats in their natural environment – allowing each cat’s purrsonality a chance to shine, and enabling the necessary human-feline bond to develop in a stress-free space.
Nearly all the cats who are brought to Purrs are well-socialized and vetted; some of them are adopted within hours or days of their arrival. The Adoption Wall celebrates the kitties who have found homes –
Give Purrs A Chance is currently working with the following rescue organizations: Friends Fur Life Rescue in Berkeley Springs, WV; Friends of Felines and Ferals of Mineral County, Keyser, WV; Missy Smith Rescue Cumberland, MD; Heart of the Earth, Cumberland, MD; and the Washington County Humane Society, in Hagerstown, MD.
Cat adoptions at Purrs follow standard procedures, requiring an application form to be completed, along with copies of current pets’ vet records and lease agreement (if renting).
Of course, you don’t have to adopt a cat to check out Purrs! Admission to the center is $7 and the house is open from 11am-5pm every day of the week. Walk-ins are encouraged to stay and play all day with the feline residents! Purrs also periodically hosts events such as yoga classes, Music Night, and Alice in Wonderland Teas which include admission.
If you are unable to make it to Berkeley Springs in person, but would like to help Give Purrs A Chance, they are accepting donations here on their website.
Contributions can be sent to: “GPAC” 51 Independence St, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411. Food or litter can be ordered from Chewy.com. They use Purina Pro Plan Focus Cat or Kitten foods, and World’s Best litter in the red bag.
They are doing such great work for the community, and are in need of volunteers – even an hour or two will make a difference!
