January has flown by in a burst of productivity! I’ve completed three paintings this month, and am currently working on a fourth, which I hope to have finished in the next few days.
I would love to keep this momentum going into February!
I’ll confess I cheated a bit, because I started painting two of them in late December, while I was “on vacation”.
Shhhh! Don’t tell my supervisor! ;)
My “Tulip Cat Fairy” is an acrylic painting on a sheet of watercolor paper, measuring 5″x7″ (12.7cm x 17.78cm).
It is currently up for auction on eBay, ending TOMORROW, January 23rd, 10:14PM EST.
My “Sunflower Fairy Cat” is also an acrylic painting on watercolor paper, and also measures 5″x7″.
It is up for auction on eBay as well, ending Sunday, January 25th, 8:00PM EST.
I just finished this commissioned portrait for a non-costumed cat standing in a flower garden. For the record, I don’t usually paint cats “who are just cats” (without any clothing or human characteristics), and I only plan to accept commissions in the future that represent my style and body of work as a whole.
This was a special case. ;)
I enjoy taking commissions, though! I continue to take them because customers often dream up ideas for characters (like Dr. Who) that I wouldn’t have considered painting on my own. He is a very popular kitty on merchandise I sell; I am so glad that I was asked to paint him! :)
On the 24th of January, the Rabbit Hole Collective on Facebook will be holding their January auction.
The theme this month was “Fan’s Choice” ~ our Page’s followers were asked to vote on several themes, and they chose “Inspired by a Song”.
I was partial to that one myself. :)
While working on the Cat in the Garden commission, I was humming several songs that were stuck in my head: “You Do Something to Me” (Cole Porter), “That Old Black Magic” (Arlen/Mercer), and “Love Potion #9” (Leiber/Stoller). Can you see a recurring theme? LOL
In particular, the chorus to Cole Porter’s song:
“You do something to me,
Something that simply mystifies me.
Tell me, why should it be
You have the power to hypnotize me?
Let me live ‘neath your spell,
Do do that voodoo
that you do so well.
I was conjuring up an image of a Voodoo Priestess Cat, with a Cajun New Orleans flavour! Maybe she practices her witchy craft in a shack, somewhere deep in the murky bayou. :)
I sketched up an image of what she might look like.
I can’t promise she will be ready by this weekend, for the Rabbit Hole auction, as I got a bit tied up with Simon’s portrait. But I will definitely finish her by the end of January…. so stay tuned for more art! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will get plenty of sneak peeks at sketches and new paintings. :)
